House design

A house is one of the most interesting and exciting projects one can undertake. First and foremost, a house is typically a deeply intimate and personal project—a unique opportunity for an owner to manifest a place for themselves and their family within the world.

How does one approach an endeavor of this nature? For some, the process is straightforward: selecting building materials, determining the number of rooms required, choosing paint, and picking out porcelain floor tiles. While this is certainly a valid approach—and sometimes the only one—there are other instances where a different path is both necessary and inevitable.

At BOCA, we understand that every house is unique; each one often holds one or more wonders waiting to be discovered. Sometimes, these emerge from the site itself—a specific view, the contours of the terrain, or perhaps the presence of an existing tree. In other cases, they arise from the client’s own characteristics: a home that doubles as an artist’s or artisan’s studio; a person who seeks inspiration from the surrounding landscape or intricate details; someone who prioritizes abundant natural light and ventilation; or perhaps someone who simply desires a courtyard where they can find happiness.

The role of the design team is to explore the project’s possibilities, identifying those that are sound, viable, and capable of fostering the greatest possible well-being for the inhabitants. To achieve this, the designers must understand the client’s needs, traits, and desires; they must be able to evaluate the opportunities and constraints presented by the site; and they must possess the solid expertise required to navigate the technical and legal challenges inherent in such a project. The goal is neither to impose a vision upon the client nor to overlook potential alternatives that may arise. Success relies on trust, communication, and mutual respect between both parties to arrive at the best possible proposal. Ultimately, the client should feel that their voice was heard and that their dream of bringing their home to life has been realized. The designers, in turn, should take pride in having provided a meaningful interpretation of that vision—an interpretation informed by years of training and a deep understanding of an ancient discipline that constantly finds ways to renew itself.

At Boca, we have designed homes in Prados del Este, La Lagunita, Altamira, Caicaguana, Alto Hatillo, Urb. La Hatillana, Los Geranios, San Antonio de los Altos, San José de Galipán, Caruao, Club de Campo, Guataparo, Maracay, El Castaño, Waltham (USA), and elsewhere.
