The house is located in the El Castaño development in Maracay, on a plot adjacent to Henry Pittier Park and overlooking Lake Valencia. Within the plot, the existing stone walls invite visitors to explore the various terraces, while discovering views of the lake, the park, the plaza, the ravine, and the mountain. These walls and terraces are a fundamental part of the site’s beauty, so it was imperative to establish a constant dialogue with them, helping us understand the nature and logic of their role in defining it.
The house is divided into two volumes oriented in different directions. The entrance volume and the more public areas of the house align with the orthogonal layout of the development’s main grid and the streets on its corner. Further away from the entrance is an equivalent volume that houses the family’s private areas (bedrooms, living room, gym, etc.). This volume aligns with the ravine that runs toward the eastern boundary of the plot, thus following a previous layout. In this way, the house materializes the encounter between different logics and forces without violating any of them.
The house is in the park and, at the same time, in the city. The question the project explores is: what does it mean to inhabit this dual condition?
