Residence CWM is a renovation project undertook in collaboration with architect and professor Ignacio Cardona. Located on the outskirts of Boston, CWM is for a talented couple of renowned Latin American concert performers and composers. The design is based on the eclectic and avant-garde vision of the owners, both with academic musical training, who sought a design that harmoniously reconciled the neighborhood’s architectural style with their own complex and rich identity as immigrants.
From the street, the house appears as a traditional suburban home of the New England middle class. Small wooden houses that are repeated discreetly and monotonously in the landscape. Upon entering the interior and the backyard, the architecture transforms, adopting a more contemporary and specific approach, seeking to adapt to the changes in the site. These transformations are not only formal but also modify the typical layout of the house, giving the kitchen and dining room—the heart of the Latin American home—a more prominent position.
The proposal also includes a small rehearsal room and the possibility of opening the house to the back garden to host small concerts for friends and family.
The house blends harmoniously with the traditional surroundings while offering its inhabitants a unique experience.
This project was developed in collaboration with architect and professor Ignacio Cardona (PhD in Architecture, Harvard GSD).
